Frozen shoulder or Adhesive Capsulitis, is an inflammation and thickening of the capsule of tissues that surround the shoulder joint. This causes it to become very painful to move due to the swelling, inflammation and less synovial fluid which prevents the joint to move smoothly. The thickening and the pain usually lead to less and less movement of the shoulder causing "adhesion" of the capsule to other structures, further decreasing the shoulders ability to move.
